Making the most of the longer evenings we got out again a week or so back. We’d planned to head for the central moors, however roadworks changed our plans and we ended up in the Haytor area again. It was nothing like as cold as the walk earlier this month – see here – but only because there was no real wind. The temperature was still around zero and it was not a night for stopping for very long.
The evening light was excellent again. The cloud formations lit by the setting sun created lovely effects. The colours in the sky after the sun had set were so vivid and deep, it’s certainly a while since I’ve seen that sort of sky. The actual walk was loosely from Cold East Cross, out over Pill tor and Top tor and then back via Rippon. As I said above it was cold but great to be out. There is no doubt that evening walks often offer something rather special.
